How to Read Your Results
Real-World Internet Speed
This test measures the speed of the path your traffic actually takes. A significant portion of Netflix, YouTube, and major platforms is distributed via Cloudflare infrastructure. The download and upload figures you see reflect how fast you can actually reach this content β not a theoretical ceiling.
The "Best Server" Advantage
Some speed tests automatically select the nearest or fastest-responding ISP server to produce higher numbers. These servers sit inside your ISP's own network and don't represent where real internet traffic goes. The number looks impressive β but what's being measured isn't your real internet speed.
ISP Peering Routes
Internet service providers can allocate dedicated, priority access paths to affiliated test servers. This can sometimes produce results far above your actual bandwidth. We don't use these shortcuts β every measurement runs only over the independent Cloudflare network.
Edge Server Distance
The nearest Cloudflare node may be in a different city or country. If so, your results may appear more conservative β this isn't a measurement error, it's a reflection of real internet infrastructure. You can always see which city your test was routed through at the bottom of your result card.
About Upload Speed
Consumer internet is asymmetric: download capacity is typically 3β10Γ faster than upload. Upload measurements are also sensitive to distance to the test server β the farther the edge, the lower the upload figure, even on a fast link. The Cloudflare edge city on your result card is where your data traveled. If ping is above ~60 ms, your upload reading here will be more conservative than a geographically closer server would show. This is a deliberate trade-off: running entirely on Cloudflare means zero third-party dependency, at the cost of upload accuracy over long distances.
